Traditionally, an Imbiss in Germany is a fast-food stand, as in Schnellimbiss. No longer, at least not in Berlin, where Imbisse of all stripes and flavors are popping up. Take, for instance, the W Imbiss in the Kastanienallee on the stylish edge between Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg, whose logo resembles the golden arches turned upside down.

The chef wears a t-shirt “the treshman”. The Tiki inspired imbiss prouds itself with five chefs: A Berliner, a Canadian, an American, an Indian and a Bavarian. George W, one of the owners lived among the Indian monks and hence the inspiration of the most incredible unusual menus.
He brings out one dish after another: a delicious and filling nan-bread pizza, topped with ingredients like pesto, fresh arugula, sun-dried tomatoes and pine nuts; a plate that covers seven different dips accompanied by a grass - apple-juice drink (he really took wheat grass and pressed it out!) but I am allergic to grass were my last thoughts before drinking it. As tough as I am, and armed with my bottle of anti-histamine….I closed my eyes! I enjoyed the entire healthy not greasy but allergic experience to the last drop and morsel on my plate.
